Christmas Eve tax hike for York County?
York County homeowners could enter the Christmas weekend facing an impending tax increase of 4.25 percent.
The county commissioners expect to make a decision Christmas Eve
on their $405 million preliminary budget for 2009, which calls for a
0.17-mill raise in the tax rate and a cut of more than 20 positions.
Revealing their spending proposal Wednesday, the three-member
board pinned the blame for the increase on the beleaguered Susquehanna
Riverlands Heritage Park in Lower Windsor Township and a meltdown of
the national economy.
The proposed budget represents a $26.4 million increase in
spending over the current year. About $182 million of the budget is
going to the general fund, the portion of the budget that relies on
property tax revenue.
The tax increase will mean the owner of a $100,000 home will have a tax bill of $417.
